Tasmanian Treasures 1.0

Tasmanian Treasures 1.0

Hello strays! My first journal is all about The Apple Isle. Tasmania is my home, and I have spent my life exploring the magic of it, let me share some of that magic with you!

Accommodation is my forte, and in my opinion, makes a trip. Slow Beam in West Hobart does just that. Architecturally designed, the space is moody and dramatic, while also managing to be welcoming and warm. Complimentary Taylor & Smith cocktails are a perfect way to settle in.

Zip down to Willie Smith’s Apple Shed in the Huon Valley for a drink and a bite, making sure to try their apple pie. If you’re full from lunch, grab yourself a takeaway slice of pie to heat up at home. It’s unmatched.

In winter, cosy up next to the wood fire and grab yourself a hug in a mug, that is the hot spiced cider. In summer, the tasting paddle is the way to go. Or beeline for a glass of my favourite, the ‘traditional apple cider’. Both options go down verrry easily.

If you’re keen to stay down south, The Long House in Cygnet is stunning, and great for larger groups. Spend your second day in the south tackling Hartz Mountains National Park. Don’t be scared of the off season either, Hartz is magic in the snow! If you’re not up to summiting Hartz Peak, there are several walks in the range that are equally as beautiful. See Ladies Tarn, Lake Esperence & Lake Osborne and brave an alpine swim!

Grab lunch at the Cygnet Old Bank, the lamb and rosemary pie is perfect after a chilly morning in the mountains.

If you do visit the Huon Valley, pay attention on the drive - you’ll find roadside cherry stands in the summer months, and locally made apple juice all year round (carry some coins for the honesty system).

After your time in the Huon Valley, head back to the city and pop in to one of Hobart’s newest restaurants, Pitzi - a pasta bar that does the most delicious tagliatelle with truffle. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. If you didn’t make a booking, don’t stress, let them know you’re waiting for a table and duck around the corner to Lucinda wine bar for a pre-dinner drop. The staff know their stuff and are super happy to share their knowledge! If you’re peckish while you wait, their bread and butter hits the spot.

That should settle your taste for Tassie for now. Stay tuned for Tasmanian Treasures 2.0!

Stray beautiful, BEAR.
